The Twelve Chinese Zodiac Animals, Book 1 sees Ho use pianistic gestures to articulate the personalities and characteristics of the Chinese Zodiac animals through a childlike gaze. Through forte palm hits and clashes of harmony Ho reflects that of a frustrated young ox, stomping the ground (Little Ox), lilting crosshand triplets and growing pentatonic harmonies are employed to reflect the bunny’s movement and carefree nature (Prancing Bunny), whereas constant waltz like figures convey a sense of a cockerel bobbing its head and dancing before tripping from excitement and planting itself into the ground (Dancing Cockerel).
